October is Subaru Loves Pets Month, and we’re celebrating with WAIVED ADOPTION FEES for adult dogs and cats all month long!
The Humane Society of St. Joseph County (HSSJC) is excited to partner with Gurley Leep Subaru and the Subaru Loves Pets initiative to help more shelter pets find the loving homes they deserve!
Thanks to a generous grant provided by Gurley Leep Subaru, adoption fees for all adult dogs and cats will be waived throughout the month of October for adopters with an approved application and scheduled adoption appointment.
Whether you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family or have been waiting for the perfect time to adopt, this is a wonderful opportunity to make a life-changing difference for a shelter pet!
How to Participate
Finding your new best friend is easy! Here’s how our adoption process works:
Step 1: Complete an Adoption Application
Start by submitting an adoption application through the Humane Society of St. Joseph County’s website at https://humanesocietystjc.org/adopt/apply-to-adopt/.
Step 2: Allow 2–3 Business Days for Processing
Our Adoption Team carefully reviews each application to help ensure the best possible matches between pets and their future families. Please allow approximately 2–3 business days for your application to be processed.
Step 3: Schedule Your One-on-One Playtime Appointment
Once your application has been approved, a member of our Adoption Team will reach out to schedule a personalized playtime appointment. This gives you the opportunity to spend quality time with potential new family members, ask questions, and get to know their unique personalities.
Step 4: Fall in Love and Head Home Together!
Our favorite part! If you meet a pet who feels like the perfect fit, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to complete the adoption and take your new best friend home that very same day!
Planning Your Visit? Here’s What You Should Know!
Our Adoption Center welcomes walk-in visitors Monday through Saturday from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. However, due to the high volume of adoption appointments and our limited staffing resources, we may not always be able to accommodate unscheduled one-on-one playtime appointments.
Additionally, several of our adoptable dogs are currently enjoying life in foster homes while they wait for their forever families! These dogs are not housed at the shelter and can only be available for meet-and-greets when arrangements have been made in advance.
For the best possible adoption experience, we strongly encourage submitting your adoption application several days before you hope to bring a new pet home. This allows our Adoption Team time to review your application, coordinate any necessary arrangements, and schedule a personalized appointment where you can spend quality time getting to know your potential new companion.
A little planning ahead helps us make your adoption experience as smooth, enjoyable, and successful as possible!
