Request Euthanasia

Owner Requested Euthanasia

One of the hardest parts of pet ownership is the inevitable fact that they will grow old and reach the end of their time with us. The Humane Society of St. Joseph County offers owner requested euthanasia for pets in need of end of life services, when staffing allows. You may be directed to contact your primary veterinarian or emergency care center in the event we are unable to quickly respond to your euthanasia request.

Those requesting euthanasia services for their pet will be required to complete a euthanasia survey. This survey may take up to 3 business days to be processed by a leadership team member. Once processed, the leadership team member will review your survey with you and discuss all details including fees, handling of the remains, and setting an appointment. If your pet needs immediate assistance, you will be directed to a veterinary office or emergency care center.

Important things to remember:

Your pet will be given respect and will be cared for by a euthanasia certified technician.

In order to serve you better an appointment is required for euthanasia services.

Cremation services are offered through Palmer Pet Cremation at an additional fee.

Owners who choose to have the pets euthanized at the Humane Society of St. Joseph County may not accompany their pet for the procedure. If you wish to be present with your pet, you will need to schedule an appointment with your veterinarian.

For all other information regarding humane euthanasia or pet cremation, please call our office.

We reserve the right to refuse euthanasia of any animal.
